Marks of a Godly Church By Rev Oscar Amisi You can't have a Godly church if you don't have Godly people! You can't confront false teachers if you are not a student of the Word. 1 Timothy 4:16 Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers. Watch your doctrine Do the teachings you subscribe to align with God's word? Know your Christian doctrines and align your life with them. Watch your life Your life has three arenas (Private, Personal, and Public) You can't have a right living unless you focus on the right doctrine. How are you applying what you subscribe to? Is your lifestyle worthy of God's calling? Reconnected, Restored, and Alive The Easter story began in the Old Testament. Gen 3:8-10 ; Isaiah 59:1-2 You cannot know someone unless you have a relationship/fellowship with them; Adam and Eve knew God We celebrate Easter because blood was shed and our sins were taken away. Easter is about the initiation of God, we have fellowship with God because of His initiation. Exodus 12:7-13 God does not send anyone to hell or heaven, people choose where to spend eternity. Isaiah 53:5 The first miracle of Easter is reconnection back to God through Salvation. Luke 23:32-43 The only requirement of Salvation was shedding blood for atonement of sins. The second miracle of Easter is restoration to our rightful position as Christians. Ephesians 2:11-13 For a Christian to fall into sin is because of the choice they make to sin. The blood of Jesus removes sin and makes us alive in Him. Understanding our restoration dictates how we relate with God. You are God's right hand. We've got to rise up and stop just being members of the Church and identify a place to serve in the Church. The Power of a Praying Church. Acts 12:1-18 AMP -Ministry without prayer has no effect. -Our power as a church of Christ is released when we become a band of prayer warriors. -The early church began with prayer. -God has called us to be witnesses and ambassadors of Christ. -We ought to remain in the posture of prayer. -Our God is a prayer answering God, He hears and answers[1 John 5:14] -Cooperate prayer cannot exist without personal prayer. -Prayer is caught and taught. -It is the content of the word of God in your prayer that moves God Esther 4:15-17 Why Prayer is important. 1. Prayer changes things and makes the impossible possible. Acts 12/Esther 4:15-17/2chronicles 20:1-15 2. Prayer changes people. -Prayer made Moses a leader. -Prayer softened Pharaoh's heart. -Prayer kept Elijah going. -Prayer gave Peter boldness. Mat 16:1 believers in a particular area. Acts 5:11 a congregation of believers in a house. Rom 16:15 our focus is on Jesus A Godly Church is Anchored in The Word of God -------------------------------------------------- The Word of God is a mirror that reflects – James 1:23 - 24 A seed that germinates and brings fruit – Matthew 13:23 Bread that gives spiritual life – John 6:35 A lamp that gives light and guidance – Psalm 119:105 A sword – Hebrews 4:12 A Hammer and a Fire – Jeremiah 23:29 The word of God avails power to the church A Godly Church is Devoted to Prayer -------------------------------------------------- The power of the church is found on her knees and when the church remains on its knees in prayer, heaven stands at attention. Prayer is simply conversation with God and it is one of the hallmarks and signs of a Godly church! A Godly Church Practices Generosity ----------------------------------------------- The needs of the needy in the church cannot be met unless the congregation develops a heart and discipline of generosity. THRESHING THE MOUNTAIN OF RELIGION. Religion is a set of beliefs and worship of a superhuman power. Forces that are intimidating man's religion. (i). Thunder (ii). Drought (iii). Hunger (iv). Floods -Acts 17:16–The mountain of God's house must be established over all mountains. -We need to find people anywhere(at the market) not only at the synagogue. -We must be ready to answer to the philosophers on what we've read. -You're a proclaimer of foreign gods to those with their own religion when you choose the mountain of religion. (Christianity is the mystery to non-believers) -Don't be afraid because you're carrying a new doctrine and something new for people outside there(ref to 4 lepers) -Everybody in the world is very religious (acts 17:22)because Athens had the altar with the inscription TO THE UNKNOWN GOD (acts 16:23) John 4:9-Samaritan woman puts up a religious fight with Jesus Christ because He was a jew but Jesus answered that He is a living water which when she drinks can't get thirsty again. Jesus didn't confront her-(you cannot clean fish which you've not caught ) –Bring people to a personal knowledge of Jesus Christ(John 4:29) Psalms 137: Talking about Israelites in captivity. -The song of the lord is supposed to be sung in a foreign land (psalms 137:4)-The gospel is not private property, therefore go out there and give it to them. -Revelation 7:9 The desire of God is to see people crying out saying "Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne". Mathew 28:18-19 The Great Commission is not a great suggestion it's a command (verse 19) Mark 16:15 Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature Luke 24:47 Repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name... THE BAPTISM TO THRESH MOUNTAINS. 1. Baptism into deep life or prayer and intercession Before prayer changes things, it has to change you first. Why you need prayers. - The prayer you don't pray today determines losses you encounter tomorrow - Prayer positions you into privilege 2. BAPTISM INTO KINGDOM SERVICE Deciding to serve God is the most rewarding thing in this life. There are three dimensions in church. - a visitor - a member - a son Serve God wholeheartedly until when you are donated to the kingdom of darkness, they refuse you because you are overused. The BAPTISM to serve God will make God honor you all the days of your life. Job 36:11 The secret to divine health is serving God. Exodus 23:25-26 Never allow your hands to grow weary of serving God. The devil will attack you with weariness. 3. BAPTISM INTO A DYNAMIC LIFE OF FAITH. If you don't grow in your faith you will become blameful and bitter. 2 timothy 1:3-5 Genuine faith must be grown intentionally. Isaiah 41:14-15 Your attitude must change Numbers 13:27-31 Every mountain is profitable You need to change your attitudes toward your failures when you have God. Your problem is not how people call you but how you call yourself. It's God who determines who you are. The devil has a way of knowing the attitude you have about yourself. There is power available for mountain takers. Zachariah 4:6-7 Act 8:5 Grace is when God allows you to do something that is not in your power but he allows you to take credit.
